Cubs

Welcome to 1st Davenham Cubs. Cub Scouts is open to all young people, aged between eight and ten and a half years old, who want to join. We enjoy a wide range of activities that are designed to be interesting and challenging, often things they won’t get a chance to do elsewhere.

Day: Tuesday
Time: 18:30-20:00
Age: 8 to 10.5 years

We meet on Tuesday’s from 6.30-8.00 pm, normally at the Davenham Methodist Church Hall but try and get out when we can, and spend many of the summer sessions at Peckmill Scout Wood. The activities become a little more adventurous as Beavers move up to Cubs, with the chance to build their own camp fires before cooking over them, camping with friends in eight person canvas tents, navigating with a map and compass, taking part in off-road cycling challenges and much, much more. Don’t worry if this seems a lot at 8 years old. The focus is on having a go with the support of their friends and leaders, and it’s surprising how quickly they take on these new challenges, especially when they realise they can win new badges for their collection.

Right back to the origins of cub scouts in 1916, it’s been traditional for the leaders to be given a name of one of the characters from Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book. The current leaders are:

Cub Section Leader
Mike (Akela)

Assistant Cub Section Leaders
Marie (Raksha)
Simon (Bagheera)
Jon (Kaa)
Dave

Cub Scout Promise:
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to God and to the King,
To help other people,
And to keep the Cub Scout Law.

Cub Scout Law:
Cub Scouts always do their best.
Think of others before themselves.
And do a good turn every day.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
