Now that I have finished my treatment, in appreciation of the work being done by the medical staff at Alder Hey and Leighton Hospitals and to benefit future leukaemia sufferers, me and my supporters are planning to raise funds by attempting the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. This is a 25 mile walk to be completed in 12 hours, climbing Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, a total climb of 5200 feet. I'm being joined by my friends and relatives.
Around 450 children are diagnosed with leukaemia in the UK every year. Leukaemia tends to develop in children between the ages of two and four. But children of any age can develop this blood cancer.
Most children with leukaemia are diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). I was diagnosed with ALL, the treatment of which can include chemotherapy, steroids, radiotherapy, and other intensive treatments. Treatments are being developed all the time and some have been changed even since I had to have them, so that more children survive.
All the research has to be funded and we want to help with this.
Jamie's Walkers are covering all their own costs. Every penny raised (and the Gift Aid) will go directly to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
