ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity
specialising in emergency shelter. Their humanitarian aid is delivered in
Iconic green ShelterBoxes. Each one contains a disaster relief tent for up
to ten people, water purification equipment, a stove, blankets and other items
essential for survival. ShelterBox responds to disaster as quickly as
possible with the aim of helping the people who are in the most need.
One box is designed to help a family of up to 10 people survive
and start rebuilding their lives after disaster strikes. Each box costs
£490 and this includes its contents, transport and a highly trained team of
volunteers who travel out with boxes, ensuring they reach those in most need.
The contents of a ShelterBox will sometimes vary slightly depending on the
diaster and the environment it's going to. However, a typical ShelterBox
contents is shown below.
For our Scouts to attain the Shelterbox badge they have to carry
out a series of activities over a 10 month period.
